You can get paid money to go post short videos 🤑

What’s Going On?

Snap released a new feature to officially compete with TikTok called Spotlight.

While this may not look like a big move on the face of it, it shifts Snapchat’s proposition from the day-to-day content sharing with friends and followers to a platform allowing creators to push their Snaps to the global community.

Previously, Snapchat has seen creators crossposting content between both TikTok and Snapchat, so it seems like a natural step for Snap. Don’t forget also, that Snap also released Sounds for Snapchat last month.

Now users are able to share content embedded onto one singular platform without needing a large following.

What’s more is that Snapchat is prepared to pay content creators!

Will Content Creators Abandon TikTok?

TikTok has already built a huge user and content creator base, but this move of Snapchat preparing to pay content creators may shift the attention from TikTok to Snapchat.

To coax this shift in platform adoption, Snap Inc is distributing over $1 million USD EVERY DAY to content creators until the end of 2020.

This isn’t an entirely unprecedented move in the short-form video content space, with the former Vine founders creating Byte as a competitor to TikTok, with the USP being that it provides a monetisation platform for the video content creators at its core.

How Do I Get Paid to Post on Snapchat?

If you reading this blog right now post a viral video, you earn a chunk of the daily $1 million.

The number of subscribers is irrelevant now. The number of people the snap is pushed to is primarily based on unique views compared to other snaps posted that day on the platform as a whole.

Similar to the YouTube Adsense model, users can continue to earn from their video if the popularity continues for multiple days and outcompetes other videos.

Social Media Platforms Becoming One

With social media companies making huge announcements last quarter, I am extremely interested to see how the environment develops.

So looking at the social media environment currently, Twitter is now Instagram with Fleets, Instagram is now Amazon with the shopping feature, and Snapchat is now TikTok 🤯
